The Nutcracker: December 12-21
For nearly 50 years the first public music conservatory in the country has brought nationally prominent faculty, UNCSA students and icons of the American Ballet Theatre together for the stirring holiday event at the historic 1929 Stevens Center. A production of "enormous power and artistic excellence," (YES! Weekly) UNC School of the Arts' The Nutcracker production is a timeless holiday tradition in Winston-Salem. Located in the heart of downtown, the Stevens Center opened as a silent movie theatre and provides the perfect setting for this classical holiday performance.
Ranked the 6th best drama school in the world by The Hollywood Reporter, UNCSA's production features a student cast and the Triad's largest Nutcracker orchestra. Ethan Steifel, one of the great ballet stars of the world and current Artistic Director of Royal New Zealand Ballet has directed, staged and co-choreographed this performance since 2009.
This production is a collaborative effort of three UNCSA schools - Dance, Design & Production, and Music.
