Spring in Winston-Salem is more than just a walk in the park. It’s a step back in time through Winston-Salem's Historic Gardens Collection. Or served by the glass at an award-winning Yadkin Valley winery -- the largest wine region in North Carolina. Throughout April, Winston-Salem celebrates spring and the art of craft beer during NC Beer Month. To see a full list of things to do in Winston-Salem this spring, go to VisitWinstonSalem.com/Spring. Below are a sampling of the events taking place during the Hop Swap weekend:
RiverRun International Film Festival
March 30 - April 9
One of the fastest-growing regional film festivals in the U.S., and a premier film festival in the Southeast, Winston-Salem's RiverRun is an Academy Award-qualifying film festival showcasing a variety of narrative, documentary, student, animated and short films from all genres.
Foothills Beer School
Every first Saturday; 2:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Do you claim to be the beer expert amongst all your friends? Such a title requires more than having a taste of every brew in existence, though that would be impressive nonetheless. The brewmasters at Foothills Brewing provide the chance to really be crowned "King of the Hops." Spend a Saturday afternoon learning the subtle nuances to craft beer brewing and tour their impressive brewery. As a final exam to the two-hour course, participants must complete the "daunting" task of sampling several of the Foothills' craft brews. We agree with the folks over at Foothills, beer school is "the easiest "A" you'll ever get."
First Friday Gallery Hop
The first Friday of each month the Downtown Arts District Association extends the hours of their shops, businesses, galleries, studios and restaurants within the Arts District. See new exhibits and meet the characters within the arts district while grabbing a pint or enjoying a glass of wine. Gallery Hop begins at 7 p.m..
