What many know to be “the strangest home in America,” the architectural wonder that is Körner’s Folly kicks off fall with a city-wide, month-long Oktoberfest celebration chock full of history to explore, food to feast on, and of course local craft beers to sample.
Nestled less than 15 minutes from downtown Winston-Salem, the eclectic three-level, seven-story house was built in 1800 as both a home and showroom for designer Jule Körner. Schedule an appointment for a self-guided tour and meander your way through 22 rooms of varying ceiling heights from 5 ½ to 25 feet. Find what treasures lie within the cubbyholes and trapdoors and climb the grand staircase to the top level of the home to fine Cupid’s Theatre, believed to be the first private little theater in America. Imagine spending chillier Autumn mornings here, snuggled up next to one of 15 fireplaces!
This fall, the city of Kernersville hosts “Oktoberfest On the Town” October 1 – 31, inviting visitors to sample some of the best of Kernersville’s food and drink options.
