A city for all seasons, Winston-Salem offers a number of activities and events to enjoy year-round. Spring showers bring gorgeous garden blooms, one of the nation’s largest Easter sunrise services and an international film festival.
Summertime brings two back-to-back wine festivals, movies under the stars and minor league games at the BB&T Ballpark. Travel back in time to Old Salem, home of the first Fourth of July celebration, where you can enjoy a weekend full of events – just like the colonists celebrated the birth of our country.
With Autumn’s arrival, there’s the Apple Fest and Harvest Day, leaf peeping (Peak foliage season is mid-October through mid-November) and the annual Legends & Lanterns walking tours of Old Salem.
Throughout December, Old Salem Museums & Gardens transforms into a scene straight out of a Dickens novel with Christmas Candlelight Tours, Christmas Lovefeasts, and traditional Christmas Eve services. The enchanting Reynolda House Museum of American Art boasts period decorations with special tours and holiday events, while Tanglewood Park’s Festival of Lights is one of the largest holiday light shows in the Southeast.
Körner's Folly, located in nearby Kernersville, is an interior design wonder of the late 1880s. Artist and designer Jule Gilmer Körner created an eccentric 22-room home that stands 100 feet high with seven levels. It is filled with murals and artwork and each holiday season is transformed with floor-to-ceiling garland, lights, and Christmas trees in nearly every room.
