NC Beer Month On Tap in Winston-Salem

It's NC Beer Month in Winston-Salem! Winston-Salem knows beer. In fact, you could even say it’s part of our historic DNA.  After all, we are the historic birthplace of North Carolina’s first microbrewery (Single Brother Brewery in historic Salem; late 1800's), the site of the state’s first pour-your-own craft beer wall, home to Foothills Brewing’s wildly popular Sexual Chocolate Imperial Stout and host city to a monthly Beer School that’s sure to transform any barley brewing novice to a proud beer connoisseur. Plus, smaller breweries are making bold statements using locally sourced ingredients and rotating small batch brews weekly. Check out a month full of NC Beer Month events, beer getaways and more below.

The Breweries

Foothills Brewing

Website
638 W. Fourth Street
Winston-Salem, NC 27101

Foothills Brewing certainly spearheaded the most recent craft beer movement in Winston-Salem and continues to lead the way as our booming beer scene continues to grow. If the name Foothills rings a bell, it may be because of their highly acclaimed Sexual Chocolate Imperial Stout which is released just once a year in February, selling out within days. You won't find it during Beer Month but you will find an incredibly in-depth beer school every first Saturday of the month and one of North Carolina's top-selling craft beers, Jade IPA. Order a flight and get more than a taste of their many seasonal brews to whet your palate.

Foothills NC Beer Month Events:

Saturday Beer School
Saturday, April 2 (and every first Saturday); 2:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Cost: $15 / person*

Do you claim to be the beer expert amongst all your friends? Such a title requires more than having a taste of every brew in existence, though that would be impressive nonetheless. The brewmasters at Foothills Brewing provide the chance to really be crowned "King of the Hops." Spend a Saturday afternoon learning the subtle nuances to craft beer brewing and tour their impressive brewery. As a final exam to the two-hour course, participants must complete the "daunting" task of sampling several of the Foothills' craft brews. We agree with the folks over at Foothills, beer school is "the easiest "A" you'll ever get."

Please arrange for responsible transportation from the pub due to the amount of beer being consumed.
*Invite a friend to partake in beer school...omitting the beer. Beer School is open to the "DD" (designated driver) of the group for only $10.

RSVP in advance online here or call the pub for more details at 336.777.3348.

#NCBeerMonthChallenge
Throughout April

While a chilled pint of craft beer is certainly refreshing and perfect on a spring day (or any day for that matter) it's important to remember that 93% of that glass is made up of water. This April, Foothills Brewing has launched an initiative that serves to honor, protect and preserve the natural resource that unites every single North Carolina brewey, water. The NC Beer Month Challenge calls on every brewery and beer lover to lend a hand in keeping North Carolina's waterways beautiful and clear. After all, without the water, there would be no beer. Let's not reenter that dreadful time period that shall not be named. (Starts with "pro" and ends with "hibition")

How to Get Involved?
Grab a friend or two -- better yet, make it a few -- and head to the nearest creek, lake, river, stream, or ocen if you're feeling really bold, and help to clear the shoreline of debris.  Then, capture the moment and tag it  on your favorite social media channel with #NCBeerMonthChallenge. And that's it -- you've officially accepted the challenge and hopefully inspired more to do the same.

For more information on The NC Beer Month Challenge, visit Foothills Brewing blog here: blog.foothillsbrewing.com/2016/03/15/the-nc-beer-month-challenge/

Hop Swap
Throughout April
For the love of beer, Foothills Brewing is opening their taps, for the first time in their 11-year history, spotlight to smaller, independent NC craft breweries every week in April. The Hop Swap helps to raise awareness of the craft beer industry in North Carolina and brings the brilliance that is Foothills to various regions throughout the state. Each week Foothills will swap a keg of their Hop of the Month brew with a keg of craft beer from the other guys. Who says too much beer leads to ruckus? It's all in good hops.
Hop Swap brewery lineup coming soon.
