A Sports Enthusiast's Paradise

Winston-Salem is a haven for sports fans seeking excitement and affordability.

Home to Wake Forest University, visitors can catch ACC basketball and football games, experiencing the thrill of bigtime collegiate athletics. The city is also home to one of the most successful HBCUs in history, Winston-Salem State, whose vibrant homecoming festivities and raucous basketball arena could rival any school on the East Coast.

Aside from college athletics, don’t miss a chance to see the Winston-Salem Dash, the city's minor league baseball team. The team plays at the award-winning Truist Stadium throughout the spring and summer, offering family-friendly fun at an unbelievable rival.

The Winston-Salem Cycling Classic, AKA Gears and Guitars is held annually over Memorial Day Weekend. Blending heart-pounding races with competition from top cyclists and a weekend of live music, this weekend is a slam dunk for sports fans and music fans alike. In August, the Wake Forest Tennis Complex is taken over by The Winston-Salem Open. The last ATP tour stop on the way to the US Open, this dynamic week of tennis is filled with seasoned pros and rising stars of the tennis world.

When the weather turns colder, fans flock to the WS Fairgrounds Arena for Carolina Thunderbirds hockey, one of the fan-friendly sporting experiences you’ll find anywhere. Last but not least, Winston-Salem is also home of the legendary “Madhouse,” Bowman Gray Stadium—NASCAR's oldest track—which buzzes with weekly races every Saturday from spring through summer.  Whatever the time of year, there’s always something exciting to see here.
