About
The AFAS Group—short for Art for Art’s Sake—is a volunteer-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Its mission is to "build, educate, and celebrate community through art."
Through a wide range of free public programs and events, AFAS works to foster the creation and appreciation of art at the local level. Signature initiatives include Mannequin Shenanigans, public art installations, art panels, murals, Archway to the Arts, and ARTivity on the Green—an innovative art-themed park located on Liberty Street in the heart of the Downtown Arts District. AFAS also operates the Unleashed Arts Center, a dynamic space for youth and community engagement through the arts.
The organization’s Red Dog Gallery serves as a vibrant showcase for a rotating collection of work by local artists and craftspeople. Visitors can explore a wide variety of media—from expressive paintings and whimsical sculptures to raku pottery, handmade jewelry, and more. With styles and offerings that evolve regularly, the gallery ensures there’s always something new for every taste and budget.
In addition to its public programming, AFAS supports the next generation of artists through student scholarships and artist mentoring, encouraging emerging talent and enriching the creative landscape of the Winston-Salem community.
