Anton Chekhov’s The Marriage Proposal is a fast-paced, comic one-act drama that delves into the oddities of proposal, social expectations, and human persistency. In this play, we tell the narrative of Lomov, a timid but well-intentioned landowner who arrives at Stepan Stepanovich Chubukov’s home to propose marriage to his strong-willed daughter, Natalya Stepanovna. However, what should have been a straightforward engagement quickly deteriorated into minor conflicts about land, dogs, and pride, turning the proposal into an ego battle. Will love triumph over stubbornness, or will a simple marriage proposal result in chaos? Join us for a lovely and hilarious rendition of this timeless classic!
The Yalta Game is about the games we play when we fall in love. Reality shifts and time truly becomes just a construct. Anna Sergeyvna and Dmitri Gurov, our two characters, are each very dissatisfied with their lives and end up having an affair on the beautiful beaches of Yalta. When they are forced to go back to their own lives, the audience watches as their idyllic life in Yalta begins to bleed into the reality of their city lives. For around 35 minutes, this beautifully written play by Brian Friel invites you to reflect on the little games we all play.
Tickets are $5 general admission seating. No late admission allowed.
