About

Ever seen Game of Thrones, or anything related to the Vikings? If so, you've probably heard the term mead before, but if you didn't know what they were talking about, we're here to help! Mead is possibly the oldest alcoholic beverage on Earth, dating back thousands of years. It was made and enjoyed by ancient cultures such as the Mayans, Greeks, Romans, and Vikings, and was even referred to as the "Nectar of the Gods."

So, what is it? Mead is a mixture of honey, water, and yeast. It is often called "honey wine," but it's far more versatile than a traditional wine. It can be sweet, semi-sweet, dry, and have an ABV as low as 5% and as high as 20%. Mead can be fermented with honey from different flowers, such as wildflower, orange blossom, avocado, sourwood, and meadowfoam. The honey used in fermentation directly impacts the flavor of the mead, but it can also be infused with other ingredients, like fruits, spices, grains, and hops. These combinations can give flavor profiles such as cherry (Viking's Blood), blackberry, cranberry, ginger, chai, and even Apple Pie mead.

With its recent induction into pop culture, through the magic of television, and its versatility as a beverage, it's no wonder mead is making a resurgence throughout the world. There is a mead out there for everyone, so stop by (after we are open of course) and find the one for you!
